In the fall of 2002, doors opened
bringing together history on this
downtown corner of asylum and
trumbull streets in Hartford, Ct.
The brownstone building,
constructed in 1861 to house the
charter Oak Bank, became home to
McKinnon’s. The original bank vault,
complete with two multiple ton
doors and encased with 18 inches of
concrete and rebar, makes home to
our kitchen.
History behind the solid twenty-
four foot hardwood bar and
back piece is a bit more involved.
Built by the amalgamated
woodworkers union and Shipped
by sea From Up state NY, to Port
Townsend seattle, Washington in the late 19th century, the bar
became a fixture at the old’e town
tavern Which was featured in the
Movie officer & A gentleman. a
framed photo from 1928, as one
walks through our front entrance,
shows some regulars at the it club.
